To the surprise of many subscribers Cartoon Network India was reintroduced to Dialog TV. Many subscribers except a few were happy that Indian version was gone and the Asian version was introduced. It was thought that this will be a stepping stone for Dialog to replace Nick India with Nick Asia but sadly this was not so. However Dialog should seriously consider replacing Nick India with the Asian version since Nick India contain more Hindi programmes than Cartoon Network India.
The 4th Transponder was officially launched with the move of Hindu channel “Shruthi” from the 3rd TP to the 4th TP yesterday. The addition the 19th channel on the 3rd TP has now been removed and there are now 18 equal channels on the first three transponders. However they should reduce the number further in order to improve quality of channels.
It is rumored that the there will be six Fox channels, DW TV, SS Music, E Television and TV5 Monde on the fourth transponder. In addition a separate channel is to be allocated for EPG only plus Games are said to be available too. This information is however not confirmed.
Please keep us updated on the latest on Dialog TV as the days progress.
Independence and freedom are not the same thing. You can be independent of parents but dependent on your husband. You can be independent of the German army to be occupied by the Soviets. The independence worth celebrating isn’t independence from one particular thing, it is the act of self-discipline that makes one free from tyranny under any flag – foreign or local. In many independence struggles the word has meant freedom from the British. Some countries have used that catalyst to form constitutions that protect people against the excesses of any government. Others have simply swapped a white overlord for a brown one. Sri Lanka isn’t a tyranny by any means, but we are certainly not free.
When I was 9 or 10, the president of Sri Lanka was Ranasinghe Premadasa. I remember boasting in school that my family met him when he was the prime minister. The story went like this: my father being a diplomat, was in Japan in the ’80s, when both Presi…

Murali spins his magic on kiwi soil. He continues to bamboozle the cricketing world and no batsman has really stood the test of time against this great man.

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.” - Albert Einstein
Pilot officer Noel H. Lokuge ejected safely from his aircraft 48 years ago today (February 1) to become the first SLAF (then Royal Ceylon Air Force) pilot to eject from a jet aircraft. This was during the 95/96 tour of Australia. The Sri Lankans had complained on numerous occasions that the Australian sledging was getting out of hand.
Replays clearly show the ball hitting the bat first; the Australian’s Warne and Healy especially were masters at breaking the batsman’s concentration and ‘buying’ wickets through sledging and intimidation.

In Colombo Again – November 2007
In Bambalapitya, I am texting a friend while crossing the road. A man in a new military uniform I did not recognise accosts me, “What are you texting?” “I’m just texting one of my friends.” “Show it to me. I want to see that.” I smile, “Okay, you can read […]

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Thursday that embryonic stem cell research, artificial insemination and the prospect of human cloning had “shattered” human dignity. In an address to members of the Vatican department on doctrinal matters, Benedict said the Church had a duty to defend the “great values at stake” in the field of bioethics. The speech was the latest in a series in which the conservative Pope has told his listeners that scientific progress should not be accepted uncritically.

Some use it as a primary method of communication just to let others know that they exist, that they are alive…but the term ‘missed calls’…hmmm, it clashes violently with the intellect inside me. Ok Ok, so the intellect is imaginary, atleast I have a good imagination…eh?

Are you still wondering why certain NGO pundits think that this government is the worst ever government we ever had? Well, no doubt, they are deeply shocked by the losses to the LTTE, under this government. That is why they are now taking sub contracts of supplying even military equipments to the LTTE. Or, are they trying to bring “peace” to our country by supplying bullet proof waist coats to
There was an interesting post on the Freakonomics blog yesterday about a gentleman who arranges soda bottles in a very artsy (somewhat Mondrian, apparently) fashion. Go have a look, I’ll wait!
Lately, I’ve been talking to several people who seem to hate their jobs. When I saw this, I was reminded how a little bit of effort and enthusiasm can contribute to your happiness in even the most mundane/

The cyclical politics of Sri Lanka are again at cross roads. The choice before the Sri Lankan Central Government is between expediency and statesmanship. The majoritarian complexes, as in the past, stand like an immovable rock limiting the options before the Government.
Like President Premdasa earlier, the Central leadership is again seeking the […]
