simple. Go to Youtube or whatever and view the video you want. On your browser’s adress bar, copy the adress and go to keepvid.com. Past the adress into the box there, selectthe site you took it from (eg: Youtube, Google, Metacafe) - it’s pretty self-explantory, actually. Click download and you’re done!.
One thing of note: save the file (you’ll get it as get_video) in .flv format. Then get yourself GOM player and enjoy!

While reading the excellent birding blog of Timo Janhonen; the Bad Finish Birdwatcher, I read about an (Eurasian) Eagle Owl Bubo bubo invading a football match played in Finland between the host country and Belgium and that the footage captured of this incident is in Youtube. Finland had won this game according to Timo who sound happy; mentioning the footie result in the same breath. I had a look at this and thought it had enough merit to share with my blog readers, not that I am overly fond of owls or anything.
Spectators cheer ‘Huuhkaja’ which apparently means owl in finish. It sounds like a very bad swear word in Sinhalese but I learn that the bird had since then come to be known as Bubi, a sports commentator in Finland. How fitting considering that its scientific name is Bubo bubo! A related form occurs in Sri Lanka, which is called Forest Eagle Owl Bubo nipalensis (Ulama in Sinhalese), of which the shrilling call is considered to bring death and misfortune by the locals. I am on the hunt for one of these and I shall break some news if I succeed in my mission. If any of my readers have any credible information of this or any other owl in day time roosts in Sri Lanka, please let me know.

Wit the disclosing of APRC proposals, there has been a buzz in the media about late president J.R Jayawardana. The APRC proposals have been based on 13 th amendments to the constitution which was resulted with the indo-lanka peace accord. The media in the south is trying hard to white wash the tarnished image of the late fox by trying to highlight that 13 th amendment as a genuine work of JR.
The historical background of 13 th amendment
J R Jayawardana won the general election in 1977 with more than 4/5 of majority in the parliament. However, this short sighted politician did not for see the growth of separatist terrorism in the North. This was aggravated further by burning of Jaffna library and later, the eruption of 1983 riots which were completely orchestrated by dictatorial UNP regime.
The UNP leadership strongly believed in dictatorship and state terror as a critical supportive aid for exploitation which is part of capitalist economy (in raw form). However, the Tamil politicians were able to read this in ethnic point of view to promote separatism and it evolved into separatist terrorism which even the same Tamil politicians were ultimately targeted. The true leadership of a character is tested in crisis situations and when J R ultimately decided to crush the terrorism it was too much for this old fox. When India came in to the picture, old and weary J R was pushed in to the wall.
The “parippu drop” (dhal drop) by IAF’s C-130 transport aircraft escorted by Mirage jets was a flagrant violation of Sri Lankan airspace which intimidated the weary JR more than Sri Lankan nation.
Following the forcibly signing of the accord by Sri Lankan president J.R. Jayewardene and the then Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Sri Lankan parliament passed the 13th amendment to the constitution, which created provincial councils with a modicum of power devolved from the central government.
But the provincial council system did not function where it was primarily meant to, namely, the majority Tamil-speaking north and eastern provinces. This complies with Tamil separatist strategy of ‘now a little, and more later’. We have never witnessed how 13 th amendment will effect North and East provinces and separatists are demanding more and more devolution.
When JR left politics in 1989, he failed to crush either LTTE terrorism or JVP insurgency (which was ultimately crushed by Mr. R. Premadasa) and Indian army had been landed in our mother land. The culture and values of the society was corroded. In short, both north and south was burning. What else this old fox could not have done to our mother land? He did the all the evils to the nation and retired as atypical politician without much of a buzz.
Tamil Diaspora, India and us
The majority of Tamils in India is concentrated in southern Indian state Tamil Nadu and it naturally has the historical, cultural and demographic factors for Tamil autonomy than any other country.
Tamil population:
India => 62.1 Million
Sri Lanka => 3.0 Million
The Indo-Lanka peace accord was a clear attempt to shield this ground reality and make the political balance of issue of Tamil Diaspora. Old foxy JR was more concerned of his political survival than future of our country and therefore give into the poliyical pressure from India.
The current reality
It is in this back drop that APRC has to accept 13 th amendment as the agreed solution. Whether we like it or not, it has been forcibly established provincial councils. This is a tiny island with only 65 610 square kilo meters in area. Still we are forced to maintain eight provincial councils. Couple of hundreds of councilors and provincial ministers has to be paid and maintained by money collected from common tax payers.
Still government has to face the unfortunate reality inherited due to acts of selfish politicians. However some fractions of media in Sri Lanka is trying to mislead the public and trying to clean the dirt of these bankrupt politicians. Their agenda is to pave the way for more and more politicians in the mould of JR. Therefore, they use every opportunity to try and clean political sins of their old political masters. However the common people in the country is now more knowledgeable and vigilant than the politico-media mafia of the country.
